Animal Crossing: One More Hit by batneko
One More Hit (Tom/Redd | R | 4,419 words): Tom visits Redd when he starts showing up at the island. This takes the "Tom and Redd are bitter exes" fancanon in such a fun direction. There's a wealth of history and emotion packed into this fic.
Excerpt:
Up on the deck, Tom caught Redd striking a match off the wooden railing and lighting a cigarette. Now coming up here made sense; even he wouldn't smoke around the merchandise. Redd glared at the treeline and blew a stream of smoke in the general direction of the lights of the island. The wind had picked up and it drifted right back at them, accompanied by a few dry leaves from the shore.
Tom coughed.
"I'll be gone in the morning, Nook," Redd said, not even turning his head.
Ah. There was the anger again.
"You'll be gone now," Tom said, firmly.
"It's late, Tom, come on. I have to get some sleep. I won't sell anything else tonight, if that's what you're worried ab-"
He didn't think of Tom as the proactive type. He wasn't expecting to have the cigarette snatched from his hand and tossed into the water. Redd was left gaping at him, lips parted and eyes wide.
Tom thought he was likely one of less than a handful of people who had ever seen Redd's eyes.
