Winter's Orbit: Inversion by AirgiodSLV

Inversion (Jainan/Kiem | NC17 | 6,684 words): This is set in a D/s AU where roles in a partnership are assigned rather an innate orientation, and Kiem asks Jainan if he'd like to reverse their dynamic in private. I love this because there's so much care and thought by Jainan and Kiem as they explore this new and different facet of their relationship.

Excerpt:
"Sit down," Jainan says.

Kiem does, and then registers the phrasing. Jainan is an exceptional politician; even alone, he's too well-practiced in his role to slip. You should sit down is what Kiem would have expected to hear; a suggestion rather than a demand.

"Was that an order?" Kiem asks, delighted. "Did you just give me an order?"

Jainan's ears turn slightly pink. He doesn't deny it.

"Do another one," Kiem prompts. He sits up straight and hopeful. "Do you want me to kneel?"

"No," Jainan says, too-sharp. Kiem goes still, but it's not a plucked nerve, he thinks—only that Jainan feels as vulnerable as he does, and as uncomfortable about it.
