If You Can't Say Anything Nice (Statler, Waldorf | G | 1,250 words): The reason why Statler and Waldorf heckle The Muppet Show every night. This is silly and fun, just like the Muppets.

Excerpt:
Fifteen minutes later, Waldorf popped the last of the pastries into his mouth. "Shall we?"

"Might as well get this over with," Statler grumbled. "Maybe we'll be able to catch up on our sleep."

They succumbed to the inevitable and slid into their seats as the curtain rose. Over the first few acts, they progressed from raised eyebrows to muttered comments to an unrestrained commentary on the show. People around them tried to shush them, but it wasn't until the beginning of the fourth act that things went to pot.

Lovers and Dreamers (Clark/Lex, ensemble | PG | 9,472 words) has Lex buying The Muppet Show. Stuff happens. I love this because it captures the Muppets and all their zaniness. So very, very funny. And the two shows mix surprisingly well.

Excerpt:
"The duel! You've challenged me, and I accept!"

"I was being sarcastic."

Gonzo ignored this entirely. "Pepe, would you like to be my second?"

"Hey, I thought I was your best friend!" protested Rizzo.

"You are, but Pepe has four arms."

"Did you- I was being sarcastic!" Lex said.

"We will fight with rubber chickens at dawn!" Gonzo exclaimed. "I shall see you there!" He and his entourage left, pulling Camilla with them.

"Dawn isn't for at least fifteen hours," Lex said to Clark.

"Actually, it's about a five minute walk," he said with a grin. "We've got a set."
