Welcome to my rec journal, fellow person on the internet! I confess, I made this journal solely to make it easier for me to keep track of stories that I liked. But I hope that maybe you will find it helpful too.

As for the type of stories I like to read, I'll read gen, het, and slash (both m/m and f/f). I like things that make me happy, make me smile, and make me laugh as well as the occasionally creepy or sad story. I rarely read for the porn because most of it doesn't interest me. I have a weakness for romances, crossovers, oddball stories, and stories focusing on minor characters. I am also very, very poly-fandom. Honestly, I'll read just about anything because I believe that any story can be good in the hands of the right author.

Links you may find useful:
The Memories
Recs grouped by fandom
The Tags
Recs grouped by fandom, rating, word count, and if they're a crossover
The Pinboard Account
Recs grouped by fandom, character and/or pairing information, rating, word count, genre, and popular cliches (I also put stories I liked but not quite enough to rec in this account, but only the recs get tagged !recced)
A couple notes for clarification: I use different punctuation to denote different types of relationships. It isn't anything complicated, but a "/" is a romantic and/or sexual relationship while a "-" is for when the relationship is neither romantic nor sexual, e.g. when it's family or friends.

I don't generally differentiate between movie- and book-verse canons, so stories tagged lord of the rings may be based on the books, the movies, or a combination. The exception to this is DC and Marvel comics. There's an all-inclusive tag for both DC comics and Marvel comics, but any movies or tv shows based on the comics have their own tag. So if you want stories about Ultimate Marvel check marvel universe, but if you want stuff about the X-Men movies check xmen. And marvel cinematic is for the Marvel Cinematic Universe because otherwise I don't know how I'd tag some of that stuff.

As far as warnings go, I don't explicitly warn for anything in rec posts, but I will use warning tags (for abuse, major character death, and dubcon/noncon) on Pinboard. Please bear in mind, however, that I may miss things and my feeling on what's enough content to warrant a tag may differ from yours. I'm only human, so please use your own discretion when choosing reading material.

I'm open to feedback, so if you're comfortable doing do, I'd love to hear from you -- whether it be a broken link you found, a suggestion to make things better, a fandom you'd like to see recs from (even if it's not one I've recced before, it's possible I have something in my bookmarks), or something else on your mind.

Murderworld Carnival's One Star Yelp Review (Foggy/Matt | PG13 | 2,519 words): Arcade has kidnapped Foggy, and now Daredevil must face Arcade's many traps. This is a lot of fun, comic book-style shenanigans with some sweet Matt/Foggy.

Excerpt:
On the screen, Matt jolted, bringing his clubs up into a defensive position. When no attack was forthcoming, he relaxed his stance just slightly.

"I'm not in the mood for games today, Arcade!"

"Well that," Arcade sighed, "that is just too bad. Because you've got three exquisitely crafted floors to beat in my Murderworld if you want to rescue your precious Mr. Nelson. Hop to it, now. Who knows what might happen to him if you take too long?"

Matt's mouth twisted into a snarl, but he tilted his head the way he always did when trying to use his radar sense to map out a room. Then he began to stride forward.

A wall shot up in front of him, and Matt nearly faceplanted into it.

The Lawyer All the Wickedness (Foggy/Matt | NC17 | 11,611 words): Set on Earth-65, DA Nelson gets to know Matt Murdock a bit better. This is a really fun getting together story for this universe and start of a redemption of Matt Murdock. It's an alternate take on canon in that I believe it was written before much was known about this Matt and where the comic was taking his story.

Excerpt:
Murdock steps aside, but only so he can walk up the aisle with Foggy, cane tapping ahead of them. Peachy. "My client was acquitted, Mr. Nelson."

"You and I both know that doesn't prove anything, Murdock." Foggy doesn't respect him enough to bother with a title.

"Only in the eyes of the law," Murdock says lightly. "Which we are both sworn to uphold, of course."

"Yeah. That keeping you up at night at all?"

He glances sidelong at Murdock and is surprised by the slow smile creeping over his face. Each perfect tooth gleams like a fang. "No," he says, his voice low and amused. "That's not keeping me up at night."

The False Prince (Foggy/Matt | G | 576 words): Foggy and Matt find themselves inside the world of The 10th Kingdom. This is fun and packs a lot of worldbuilding and pining into a fairly short ficlet.

Excerpt:
"We could still run away," Foggy tells him.

The words are said with a light, joking cadence, but just beneath that veneer they're weighty. Earnest. Foggy would run with him, anywhere Matt wanted to go. Nelson and Murdock. Just the two of them. Like always.

Matt wants it so much his heart aches. But he can't.

If You Had Wings (I'm Sure They'd be Beautiful) (Foggy/Matt | G | 4,801 words): Foggy shares a secret, giving Matt he courage to do the same. This is a very sweet and comforting fic (with a sprinkling of angst) of how things might have gone if Matt had told Foggy what he could do during their college years.

Excerpt:
"I didn't really daydream about waking up to find out I was special," Matt begins. The words feel clumsy on his tongue, but he hopes the honesty they carry will help them hit their mark "If anything, I suppose there were nights when I hoped I'd fall asleep and wake up more normal. Just like everybody else.:

Foggy pushes himself up from the floor, supporting his weight on his palms behind him.

"Shit, Matt. I'm sorry- I wasn't really thinking. Too many of those lime things, and-"

Matt shakes his head. He doesn't really want to get up just yet, but it feels strange to be lying down now that Foggy's no longer next to him.

"No, it's okay," he answers, taking a deep breath as he pulls himself to sit, knees bent in front of him, the tips of his socks burying their way beneath Foggy's leg without comment. "I'm just trying to explain… or… build up the courage to, maybe."

There's a faint hitch in Foggy's breath, coupled with a much more noticeable uptick in his heartbeat.

Cornflower Blue (Fisk/Wesley | PG13 | 1,258 words): Fisk has a request of Wesley. This has a wonderful character voice for Wesley, and I love how it looks at the relationship between Wesley and Fisk.

Excerpt:
It took a special kind of determination to have weathered an unarticulated promise to stay put on his aunt's farm in Iowa while he tended his high school resume and Fisk built his connections out on the east coast in the dark. It’d been tough. There had been no contact between them, and, as he put on years that, one by one, distanced him from the lovesick child who'd presented his departing neighbor with a bouquet of weeds from the unkempt fringes of his farm's cornfield, he'd often wondered if the phone would ever ring with the summons he’d convinced himself was coming.

But even then, his resolve hadn't wavered. He'd polished himself till the shine made him worth something: a business degree, foreign language skills, and social graces. And he'd been rewarded for his patience and hard work most handsomely with a place at Fisk's side and one half of his bed.

On the Anti-Magical Properties of Danny Rand's Bathtub Moonshine (Foggy-Matt | PG13 | 8,513 words): A spell turns Manhattan into a fantasy land, and for some reason Matt and Foggy are the only people who notice. This is so much fun. The new fantasy setting is full of whimsical details, and Matt and Foggy working as a team is great.

Excerpt:
Matt chewed his lower lip – his canine teeth looked a little more fang-y than they had before, "At least we got some information. We've got a limited amount of time left, because it sounds like the size is doubling every day. Two miles, then four more miles, then eight."

"... So, how long is that until it's everywhere?"

They both paused while Foggy took a minute with the calculator on his phone.

"Twelve days."

"So we better hurry, then," Matt said, grimly.

"We might have more time than that. The spell seems like it gets caught on running water, since it got stuck on the river, crossing the ocean might stop it for a while too," said Foggy.

Matt tilted his head, "How do you know that?"

"Uh… I'm not sure, actually," Foggy said. Apparently, this spell was dropping weird magic knowledge straight into his head.

Matt waved him off, "Besides that, we don't know how long we'll be immune."

The nights are lovely, dark and deep (But I'll appear when you're asleep) (Foggy-Matt | PG13 | 7,860 words): While chasing down a cult in Hell's Kitchen, Matt gets taken and Foggy has to find him. This is a perfect Halloween-y fic with a tense atmosphere as the plot unfolds.

Excerpt:
The list of missing in Hell's Kitchen never grew shorter. Eventually those who couldn't be missed would be declared dead, chased by banks and tax collectors after years of nothing. They'd been doing this for years. Decades even, a same monster beneath the ground supposedly demanding human flesh.

Each night he gained more information, and yet remained equally lost as to how to stop them. Injuries stacked up from distraction, from listening to conversations blocks away in hope of catching the right breadcrumb. Stitches he couldn't stretch, strained muscles that wouldn't relax as hard as he would try.

But even the worst injuries would be ignored in favour of running to a crying child. Of leaping over a rooftop and barely pausing as a wound ripped open, as her screams continued for her dad.

On The Usefulness of Fruit (Foggy/Matt | PG13 | 15,989 words | sequel to Rose-Colored Boy): After getting seriously injured while out as Daredevil, Matt refuses to let Foggy see him. Oh, this is wonderful. Matt and Foggy fight, and it's such a realistic fight. My heart hurts for both of them, and the resolution of the fight is perfect.

Excerpt:
"No, um," [Matt] put his hand on his side and groaned with the pain throbbing there. His whole body throbbed with it. "Can you text Foggy for me?"

"Oh, yeah," [Claire] said. "You passed out while you were giving me the number."

She finished unpacking the stuff she got at the drugstore and then sat on the coffee table in front of him with her phone out. Matt gave her Foggy's phone number and Claire tapped out a simple message. Matt released a small sigh of relief. At least he could assure Foggy he was alive.

"He asks if he can come by?" Claire said a moment later.

Matt shook his head quickly, his memories blinking through That Unfortunate Night again, making him break out into a clammy sweat and his heart rate increased. He didn’t want Foggy to see him like this. He couldn't have Foggy see him like this.

"No." He said. "Just tell him I'll be home in a day or two."

"Matt," Claire groaned.

"Please," Matt said, his eyebrows furrowing. "Please just say that."

More Precious Than Gold (Foggy/Matt | PG13 | 1,630 words): Matt, a dragon, has something he wants to show Foggy. This is sweet and precious and wonderfully fluffy.

Excerpt:
"They're so big! Are… Are these your eggs?"

Matt curled tighter around the clutch.

"They're mine now," he said, because that much was true. "They… They were left to me, by someone very important. You… Can touch one. If you want."

Foggy did, then gasped.

"It's so warm…"

"It's coming out of hibernation," Matt explained. "After a long, long time."

Foggy continued to stroke the closest egg, and a wave of contentment — weak, fluttering, distinct from his own — washed over Matt. His heart constricted with a joy so fierce it was almost painful.

Self-Fulfilling Prophecies (Foggy/Matt | PG13 | 9,576 words): There's a prophecy that Foggy's going to get taken by a dragon, so he stays in the city and instead meets one Matt Murdock. This is a wonderfully fun urban fantasy with sweetness and cuteness, and I love how Foggy's prophecy comes true.

Excerpt:
Drunk Matt was a delight. Foggy wanted him around forever. He bounced on his toes, he giggled, he didn't get that twisted and frustrated look on his face when his stammer cropped up. And best of all, he and his freakishly warm furnace body cozied right up to Foggy's side. A delight.

Foggy wanted to kiss him.

He didn't, because even Drunk Foggy knew that was a horrible idea. But... He wanted to.

Instead, he just watched. Savored the unguarded way expressions flickered over Matt's face. Giddy, then determined, then... Well, then Matt tilted his head and stuck out his tongue. But not in the thoughtful 'poke my tongue out the corner of my mouth as I work' way — no, he'd gone full on 'stretch out my tongue as far as it goes'.

"What are you doing, buddy?" Foggy laughed. "It's not quite the season for catching snowflakes on your tongue yet."

Matt looked startled for a second, then adorably puzzled. He tucked his tongue back into his mouth, brows still scrunched together.

"I didn't want to catch a snowflake," he told Foggy. "I was trying to get a better sm—"

Matt cut off, then, shaking his head the way Foggy sometimes felt the urge to do, as though it would fling off the haze of drunkenness like rainwater.

"Get a better what?"

"No, it." Matt shrugged, posture awkward and embarrassed. "It's nothing."

5 times foggy met daredevil (and 1 time he didn't) (Foggy/Matt | PG13 | 9,694 words): An alternate meeting where Foggy doesn't know Matt and gets to know Daredevil first. This is sweet and cute and a lot of fun.

Excerpt:
"Are you arguing that this wasn't on purpose, councilor?"

"I'm arguing that me putting myself in danger once is in no way equivalent to what you do and that my risking my life for the sake of another person does not equate to being mugged for a second time, therefore you have no right to neither judge me nor condemn me."

"Fair enough. Does the defense rest?"

"The defense rests in the case of Nelson v. Masked Man."

The masked man laughed, sharp and short but genuine.

"Well, Mr. Nelson, given that convincing argument I'm going to sentence you to me following you home to ensure you don't decide that I'm leading by example and try to stop another dangerous situation."

Had to learn what truth does (Candace-Matt | G | 2,791 words): Matt lets Candace know he's not dead. This is a great look at what it would be like to find out someone you thought was dead wasn't.

Excerpt:
Candace accepts an invitation for takeout and drinks with the two of them a week or two after Matt's return, vaguely hopeful that this interaction could be the one that finally brings her some peace.

Because despite the calls, Matt still hasn't given her a solid answer as to why he left, or where he's been, or why he came back.

Candace is fast running out of patience, being dragged along like this.

Rose-Colored Boy (Foggy/Matt | NC17 | 15,429 words | sequel to I Now Pronounce You idiots in Love, sequel is On The Usefulness of Fruit): Foggy has plans to take Matt on a proper date; Matt struggles as Daredevil. This is a sweet and comforting fic while giving weight to Matt's struggles.

Excerpt:
"You're gonna see me tomorrow." Matt said as he affixed his glasses onto his face. He slipped on his shoes and bent to tie them.

"Yeah, I know." Foggy said. "Your night job just very much cuts into Matt Canoodling Time. I like Matt Canoodling Time." He muttered at the end and then stood up so he could walk Matt to the door.

"I like Matt Canoodling Time too." Matt teased him, getting himself pulled in by Foggy by his waist. He had to go. But, having Foggy's arms around him was dizzying in the best of ways, like a rollercoaster he didn't want off of.

"Then don't go." Foggy tried, his nose pressed against Matt's.

"Foggy, I have to." Matt knew this was going to be hard, but he didn't think it would be this hard. He cupped Foggy's face. "Can I come back in the morning? Before it's time to get up for work?"

"Yes, please." Foggy said, his lips brushing Matt's. "Please."

Move it like u stole it (Foggy/Matt | NC17 | 2,380 words): Foggy introduces Matt to the wonders of sex toys. I love how much fun Foggy and Matt have with each other.

Excerpt:
"So?"

Matt went a little pinker across the very tops of his cheeks. "I mean. It's kind of...loud? And it's -" he seemed to weigh it, in his hand: "isn't it a little...big?"

"You are so full of shit, I love it," Foggy said, in real admiration, and tackled him. ("Ow! no! quit it!" Matt giggled, in between volleys into what maybe devolved into a particularly stupid pillow fight.)

"It's fine," Matt said, more than a little breathless, from where he'd draped himself across Foggy. "I still don't get the big deal, but it's fine, c'mon, take me for a ride."

Stories to Tell in the Void (Matt, Foggy/Matt | G | 15,528 words): Matt messes with a wizard and ends up in avoid along with three other versions of himself. This is delightful. The characterization of each Matt is great. There's humor and fun and bonding, and it's all wonderful.

Excerpt:
"'Kay. Well, you live and you learn. We're going to need to assign names. I'm not calling all of you Matt."

"I'll be Murdock,” the angry one decided, as if he could just call dibs.

"Aye, just swipe it from the rest of us," the Irish one snarked dryly, echoing Matt's thoughts, "we don't mind a bit."

"If you wanted it, you should have spoken up," the self-declared Murdock said.

"No," Matt scoffed. "That's too confusing. Do you have… I don't know. A job title?"

"I'm a lawyer," he replied, unimpressed.

"Same," the man across from him said.

"What manner of accent is that?" groused the Irish one. "It's no English I've heard in the wide world, nor foreign tongue."

"I'm going to assume this guy's from like, out of time," the man across from him decided. "What with all the prose and… such."

I Now Pronounce You idiots in Love (Foggy/Matt | NC17 | 31,940 words | sequel is Rose-Colored Boy): Foggy invites Matt to be his plus-one at a wedding in the hopes of repairing their relationship after Foggy learns about Daredevil. This is a wonderful fic that's sweet and full of pining and a bit of angst as Foggy and Matt try to reconnect.

Excerpt:
Matt rolled his eyes a little and relaxed into the seat, playing with the handle on the side until it was angled right. He had never been on this long of a car ride, but he assumed that he should get comfortable. He regretted not bringing a book or work to do.

"Let's take Jesus off the dashboard, got enough on his mind…" Foggy sang. He had a nice voice and projected well – probably from being a theater kid. Actually, being a theater kid probably explained a lot about Foggy. Like, his ability to ham it up in the courtroom and his rose-colored romantic streak.

"I invited you because I wanted to." Foggy said, interrupting his own singing. He turned down the radio.

That brought Matt out of his thoughts. "What?"

"You asked me if I brought you along to be car DJ." Foggy said. "I'm telling you that I invited you because I wanted to. You've been stewing on it for a while, I can tell."

Because I wanted to. That bounced around Matt's head. It was something. Something a little more than fuck you for lying to me all these years. Was it a line? A line to where they could get back to where they were? Matt wasn't sure yet and before he could ask about it, Foggy had turned the music back up and started to sing again. "Diet mountain dew, baby, New York City. Never was there ever a girl so pretty."

Matt fiddled with the CD case zipper and turned his head towards the window. The world on fire that his mind’s eye built out of his heightened sense zoomed by.

Sais and Butter Knives (Elektra/Elektra | PG13 | 9,212 words): When Elektra is resurrected as the Black Sky, she comes back as two people. This is an interesting exploration of Elektra and her desires and the different aspects of her, and I like that it gives her space to be her own person.

Excerpt:
"Who am I?"

She returns to the mirror as she asks that question. She asks Elektra's scars as if they can tell her. They can't. She doesn't recognise herself. She doesn't know Elektra and she doesn't know the Black Sky.

She wants to know Elektra. She wants to know why she doesn't need her anymore. Elektra knows things. She knows who she is. Not the Black Sky, but… someone. How can she find Elektra? Alexandra won't tell her.

Romantic Things You Said While Concussed (Foggy/Matt | PG13 | 4,344 words): Matt comes back to their college dorm room with a concussion, leading to some truths to be confessed. This is sweet and funny and a nice alternate take on Foggy fidning out about Matt's past and senses.

Excerpt:
"'m tired," Matt mumbles afterwards, twisting the cap back into the half-empty water bottle and flopping back on Foggy's bed. "Foggy. Keep me awake. You promised."

He didn't, actually, but Matt's his best friend so the promise is kind of implied. He's just not sure the best way to keep it. If they were studying and trying to pull an all-nighter, he'd whap Matt with a pillow, but he's not willing to do that when Matt's all beat up.

"Come on, Matt, let's play Truth or Dare, ok? That'll keep you awake, huh?" Foggy says, taking Matt's free hand and hauling him back to a sitting position; even to his own ears his voice sounds strained.

"I don't like truth," Matt replies mulishly, and all Foggy can do is bark out a laugh.

"Yeah, buddy, I know."

"But I like you, Foggy."

Holding on (Foggy/Matt | NC17 | 3,603 words): Matt and Foggy are rebuilding their relationship, and Matt can't resist Foggy. This is a lovely bit of emotional smut with a sweet payoff.

Excerpt:
"Let's check precedence again," Foggy says at one point. "Where's the Carlson file?"

Matt knows where Foggy has put the file and wants to help him. Apparently, Foggy's question was rhetorical though. Both Matt and Foggy turn their chairs at the same time to reach the low cabinet the file rests on.

Matt's hand glides along Foggy's thigh. It's the fragment of a second. But it stretches out for Matt, having his brain circuit. The sensation of the expensive fabric against his fingers, the soft give of the flesh underneath, the tiny gasp Foggy lets out, barely audible but impossible to miss for Matt.

They both freeze. But Foggy laughs after a while. His voice takes on that tone he uses to dismiss something even though it does affect him.

A Little Fright (Foggy/Matt, Dany | PG13 | 1,445 words): Foggy has to rescue Matt from a witch. This is fun and has Foggy being appropriately awesome and has a nice sense of humor.

Excerpt:
"What do we do?" he whispers to Danny.

Danny frowns for a second. It's hard to see his full expression due to the dim lighting and his mask, but he seems contemplative. Hopefully coming up with a smart plan.

"You go get Matt from the cage. I'll stop the witch. Ok?"

Foggy waits a few more seconds, but that appears to be it.

"Uh. Ok."

A little bit barebones, but he can work with it.
